Discover Zerafshan with ZTB The Zerafshan Valley is the cradle of Tajik civilization, home of the first city builders in Central Asia. The Bronze Age site of Sarazm, which translates as "the beginning of the land" in 2010 became the first UNESCO World Heritage Site in Tajikistan. The region is rich in history with a strong emphasis on learning of Traditions and Culture. It is a place where ancient ceremonies and customs, clothes and embellishments, articles of life, architectural styles, legends and folklore were saved and passed down from father to son. In the remains of the settlement of Ancient Penjikent we see the home of the last Sogdian King, a Zorastrian city, from the centre of the Great Silk Road, where many cultures met, exchanging beliefs, ideas and art.
The Zerafshan Valley (also Zarafshan or Zarafshon) is situated in northern Tajikistan with Panjakent as its premier city, embedded between the impressive mountain ranges of the western Pamir-Alai massive."Zerafshan" -- which means "Gold bearing River" in Tajik -- is the main stream which crosses the valley and which is the major source of water in the region.There are also many spectacular lakes in the region situated between the mountains.Due to its rich cultural history, natural beauty and the generous hospitality of its inhabitants the Zerafshan valley of Tajikistan is emerging as a major World Tourist Destination in Central Asia.
